Community Health Vision and Child Care Strategy Works Commence!

Published on 26 February 2024

For immediate release.

Gilgandra Shire Council has commenced key strategic work in the vision of population growth Towards 5000. Strategies include the Gilgandra Region Health Vision and Child Care (0-12) for Gilgandra Region and will soon be open for community consultation.

Mayor Doug Batten says the strategies are community plans for the future and encourages feedback from residents.

“The plans are a key to understanding the gaps, challenges and opportunities the community currently face, and how Council, community, government and private partners can work together. We envisage these strategies to be community plans, and the insights we can gain over the consultation process will help form the future for health, wellbeing and care in the Gilgandra Region”

The Community Health Vision strategic document will not only address existing health challenges but also empower the community to actively participate in their well-being, creating a healthier, more vibrant Gilgandra for all its residents.

Lake Advisory have been engaged to deliver the Community Health Vision. Lake Advisory have a current engagement with Gilgandra Shire Council (GSC), undergoing an Orana Living NDIS review and have strong experience in the health and strategic planning space.

The Child-Care strategy seeks to understand quantifiable data related to current and future needs of child-care of ages spanning 0-12, including early childhood, before and after school care and holiday care.

Insight Consulting Australia are working with GSC to deliver the Child Care strategy, with a long background in youth services, government and strategic work, we are excited to see their data analysis and consultation review, along with action plan for delivery by our community.

Consultation for both strategies will commence Monday, 4 March with 1:1 and group facilitated meeting with service providers, and community surveys available. Residents are encouraged to take part and share the consultation information to ensure the best reach and insight from the community.

A list of industry, community and government stakeholders is being compiled to assist with the consultation processes. A draft plan is expected for May public exhibition.
