Rural Roadworks

Restoration works are in progress across our Shire following Council awarding seven works packages as part of the successful funding under the NSW Government Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA). The DRFA is for the flood damage incurred through 2019-2021, in which there has been five natural disaster declarations related to Gilgandra LGA during this period.

In addition to Council’s own three grader crews, we have engaged all local contractor crews, with a total of eight graders to be working on the network.

  • Work on Packages 1, 2, 3 and 4, totaling a sum of $1.25 million, involves 220km of rural roads.
  • Council awarded Packages 6, 7 and 8 in May 2021, totaling a sum of $1.7 million, involving a further 370km of road restoration works.

Please note: We understand that some previously restored roads, have or may be subsequently damaged as we experience further rainfall. To maximise the service around our road network, roads will only be returned to, in the short term, where emergency work is required.

We acknowledge there are other roads that have been brought to our attention and we continue to prioritise these requests, taking into account high volume use, bus routes and other factors.
