12 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS @ 'THE GIL" OPENS

Published on 02 December 2019

Gilgandra’s 12 Days of Christmas pop-up shop, ‘the GIL” will officially open its doors on Tuesday, 3 December from 12 midday.

With a rising number of close to 40 different participants that include businesses, makers and artists, this space is shaping up to be the go to for Christmas gifts.

 Mayor Batten says,

“We want our residents to stay in Gilgandra Shire to do their Christmas shopping, and Council wants to be able to support our local businesses and industry in making this happen. Whether you have a shop front already, or sell online, ‘the GIL’ offers a centralised shopping experience, showcasing all that Gilgandra region has to offer.”

 Adding,

“There are many great initiatives we are seeing at the moment, including the #BuyFromTheBush movement, State Government’s Buy Regional program and various ‘drought drives’ where people are looking to purchase from regional towns. We want to ensure that Gilgandra is on the forefront of these opportunities and presenting ourselves both locally and regionally to buyers.”

The 12 Days of Christmas project is an initiative of Council as a result of the purchase of the former Target building, and an initial step in the ‘Activation’ of Gilgandra.

The project will operate from ‘the GIL’ weekdays 12midday – 5pm and weekends 9am – 12midday.

 General Manager David Neeves says,

“We have had an incredible response from local businesses, artists and makers to set up and sell their products directly in the CBD in this pop-up space.

 Adding,

“A member of Council staff will be on site at ‘the GIL’ to sell products directly on behalf of all participants and we will be promoting each of these businesses through Council’s Gilgandra Region social media pages with the #GilgandraGiftGuide digital campaign.”

All businesses within the Shire are invited to be part of Council’s #GilgandraGiftGuide digital campaign. Businesses that are wishing to be part of this campaign can simply add a photo of their Christmas gifts using the #GilgandraGiftGuide on their Facebook or Instagram pages to be shared, or can email images directly to enjoy@gilgandra.nsw.gov.au.

The 12 Days of Christmas also supports the visitation of the Di Jones real estate group with over 100 cars travelling out from Sydney to purchase in our region, who will be through Gilgandra on Tuesday, 10 December as well as the Central Stores Fresh Market on Thursday, 12 December.

At the same time, the Shop Local campaign will continue to run with 50 x $1000 Coo-ee Cash cards up for grabs.

If you are interested in holding a stall or exhibition in ‘the GIL, please contact Council directly on 6817 8800 or by email enjoy@gilgandra.nsw.gov.au.
