HAVE YOUR SAY - TRAFFIC CONDITIONS OF NEW INDUSTRIAL SUBDIVISION

Published on 02 November 2020

With all blocks in the Gilgandra Industrial Park on Hargraves Lane now sold or currently under offer pending settlement, the focus moves to the GrainCorp Industrial Precinct, located on the Newell Highway.

Acting Mayor, Ash Walker says the subdivision is a significant opportunity for Gilgandra, which will serve as an important keystone for business development and employment generating opportunities moving forward. With the project currently in the development application phase, some key decisions need to be regarding traffic movement to finalise the design.

“This is a major development currently estimated at $4 million which Council secured funding support through the NSW Government. The site also has potential for rail access and will form a key asset in ensuring the community is able to attract the short term benefits from the Inland Rail construction along with long term opportunities” says Cr Walker.

Adding,

As part of the process to develop the GrainCorp Industrial Precinct, staff have been working with our environmental and planning consultant to design the site to maximise design and efficiency outcomes of the subdivision as well as anticipating traffic levels, flow and suitable access” says Cr Walker.

“We are encouraging the community, particularly residents which use Balladoran Railway Road to provide their feedback on the options to assist the design process. This is a major project and these traffic issues need to be considered in conjunction from potentially impacted residents”.

Subdivision design options have been identified with each having key considerations with project cost, subdivision layout and traffic movements. Council is now inviting the community to consider these, with the preliminary Concept Designs along with a Have Your Say opportunity available on our website.

Option 1 involves Rerouting Balladoran Rail Road. This would result in the Rerouting Balladoran Rail Road through the new subdivision utilising the existing intersection to the current Graincorp South Site Access. Effectively closing the current intersection of Balladoran Railway Rd and the Newell Highway.

Option 2 involves a Closed Subdivision development which would see only one access to the Industrial Precinct via the GrainCorp South Entrance. Under this Option, some form of emergency access/exit would need to be created to allow access in the event of a blockage at the single entry and exit point to the subdivision.

“This project represents a considerable investment and the decisions regarding traffic movements need to be determined from the outset. Council along with a number of agencies including NSW Government are involved in this project, with particular interest in the impact this development may have on the Newell Highway”, says Cr Walker.

Adding,

“The uptake of land in the Gilgandra Industrial Park reinforces that having available land helps facilitate opportunities and jobs in the community. Now is the time to ensure the subdivision design for the new GrainCorp Industrial Precinct considers the key traffic access issues while providing sound development and marketing opportunities for potential investors.”

“Community feedback is an important part of this process and I strongly encourage those in the community that may be impacted to Have Your Say.”

Feedback is invited until 5pm Monday, 23 November 2020. The community is invited to view the preliminary concept designs and Have Your Say through Council’s website www.gilgandra.nsw.gov.au
