Grow Gilgandra Program supporting local businesses!

Published on 19 October 2020

Grow Gilgandra is set to get underway, a program that will offer a suite of initiatives designed to support our local businesses.

Acting Mayor, Ash Walker says Council and its Economic Development Committee have been working to develop a comprehensive program to support businesses in the Gilgandra region.

“There are a number of different initiatives and opportunities that form Grow Gilgandra, all designed to help businesses capitalise on the regional tourism movement the region is currently experiencing”  says Cr Walker.

Adding,

“Businesses have seen significant economic impacts as a result of the prolonged drought and more recently COVID, and we want to support them following this challenging period.”

Grow Gilgandra includes the following initiatives, with further detail to follow as each are launched in coming weeks:

  • Shop Local program
  • Business Improvement Grant (BIG) Ideas Program
  • Business Training opportunities
  • Business Signage project

Council’s Marketing & Communications Manager, Kathryn Larkin says,

“We are looking forward to kicking off the 2020 Shop Local campaign, the first key initiative under Grow Gilgandra. The 2020 program has been designed following feedback received through recent business consultation. Weekly draws will still form a key element as well as business training, business draw opportunities and advertising collateral”.

Adding,

“This year will also include Customer Feedback Surveys, with shoppers encouraged to give feedback on their experience with local businesses, including what they have enjoyed and what they might suggest for improving.”

“Shop Local will become a broader campaign, continuing outside the Christmas period, recognising the importance of shopping local and promoting the Gilgandra Region on a regular basis” says Mrs Larkin.

Council’s Business Training opportunities are also set to kick-off from Monday, 26 October with a free Business Facebook Masterclass @ the GIL. Register by calling the Marketing & Communications team on 6817 8800 or email enjoy@gilgandra.nsw.gov.au

The Business Improvement Grant (BIG Ideas) Program has been established in order to assist with economic development opportunities and investment in businesses in the Gilgandra Region. With applications opening in early 2021, businesses will be able to apply for two rounds of funding, up to $5,000 or up to $10,000 matched for business projects.

“We encourage businesses to use feedback from this year’s Shop Local Christmas promotions to assist in defining their projects and the need for change, or opportunity for improvement” says Mrs Larkin.

“We look forward to working with our local businesses on the Grow Gilgandra opportunities, and seeing some of the ideas come to life over the next few months” says Cr Walker.
