GSC RESPONSE TO ORANA LIVING SERVICES AGAINST COVID-19

Published on 30 March 2020

Council has implemented a number of significant changes to operations in servicing of Orana Living clients in response to the increasing risks of COVID-19.

Many of our Orana Living clients work in our Carlginda waste recycling service. In an effort to ensure the health and safety of our workers this recycling service has been suspended for the foreseeable future, however the yellow-lidded recycling bins are still being collected as per normal pickup schedule.

General Manager, David Neeves says,

“The health and safety of our clients is paramount and Council is doing all we can to eliminate the risk of an outbreak locally. The decision to suspend Carlginda’s recycling service serves as a measure in this.”

Furthermore, Council has suspended services operating from the Orana Living Life Skills centre.

“Unfortunately, managing appropriate social distancing and number of persons congregating has proved difficult. As the exposure of the virus increases, so too does the possibility of it occurring here and with the latest Federal Government announcements, Council has made this tough decision” says Mr Neeves.

“The focus from here will be in supporting individual households, and staff will be working with clients and families to ensure the best support and activity is available in these environments.”
