DOMESTIC POTABLE WATER REBATE ANNOUNCEMENT

Published on 02 December 2019

Council has announced a rebate scheme for rural residents that ensures the availability of domestic potable water at a maximum cost of $100 per delivery.

Mayor, Doug Batten says this is an initiative to provide additional support to drought affected rural residents.

“While we have been lucky enough to see a little rain to help replenish the water tanks, it has not been widespread in our region. Council acknowledges the need to further support residents to access clean potable water.”

Adding,

“As we know Gilgandra has a very reliable water source that services our township and Council’s current policy enables residents to access potable water free of charge, which will continue. What this rebate scheme means, is that any resident who is eligible for assistance under the NSW Emergency Drought Relief Package can also receive additional support from Council.”

Council underwent discussions with local welfare agencies and local contractors in developing this initiative and the resolution from Council’s November meeting will see financial support to assist with water cartage costs where residents use an authorised Water Carrier.

General Manager, David Neeves says the process for rural residents will be straight forward.

“Rural residents will be required to submit proof of water cartage costs to Council along with a copy of their successful claim to the Rural Assistance Authority. Council will cover the remaining costs of water cartage after the resident’s own $100 contribution.

Adding,

“Council will reimburse successful applicants through an EFT payment processed through Council creditors within 10 days from receipt of submission

“Council is committed to supporting our community in these times and hope that this contribution will help alleviate some of the pressures our residents are facing” says Mayor Batten.
