Australia Day Ambassador Announced

On 26 January, Gilgandra will come together as a community to reflect, respect and celebrate – because we are all part of the story.

Come along and hear from Australia Day Ambassador, Mr Victor Kovalenko OAM as he joins us for our Australia Day Celebrations.

Victor has a long history as a renowned sailing coach for Australia and across the world. His acknowledgements and achievements have been recognised in Australia and across the world, including:

  • Coach of the Year 2008, 2012,
  • Medal of the Order of Australia,
  • Order of Merit of NSW Olympic Council,
  • Four Medals of USSR and Ukrainian Governments Ukrainian Order of Merit 2021,
  • Sport Hall of Fame Member, and
  • Olympic 470 class Hall of Fame Member.

Victor has also coached numerous teams in Australia and across the world between 1997 and 2016, including:

  • World Sailor’s of the Year Coach 1997, 2013,
  • Seven Olympic Gold Medal’s Coach,
  • One Olympic Silver Medal Coach,
  • Three Olympic Bronze Medal’s Coach,
  • 20 World Champion’s Coach,
  • 14 European Champion’s Coach,
  • 129 World Class Regattas Winning Coach, and
  • Head Coach of Australian Olympic Team 2004,2008,2012,2016.

Victor, a seasoned ambassador, is proud to be an Australia Day Ambassador and to visit Gilgandra Region and join in with our community celebrations.

Australia Day Ambassadors generously volunteer their time and share their Australian story at hundreds of community events on Australia Day. Our Ambassadors continue to inspire communities where they become a guest of honour and participate in activities as diverse as the communities themselves.

We want the Gilgandra community welcome Victor these Australia Day Celebrations and get involved!
