General Community Updates


In response to the current Stay-at-Home Order for Gilgandra the following is in place for Council services and facilities.

Administration Building, Warren Road

The building is closed to the public. Customer requests can be received by phone 6817 8800 or online
DA and CC lodgement is as per normal by the e-planning portal
Planning and building enquiries can be made by phone 6817 8800.

Ranger Services

Ranger Services will continue as normal.

Service NSW, Miller Street

Is open by appointment. We ask that customers please call ahead to make appointments. The number of customers in the service area at any one time will be limited, in line with COVID Safe guidelines. We encourage customers to use online or phone transactions where possible. Phone 6817 8788 (during business hours, this service will be unattended from 12.30pm to 1.15pm).

Cooee Lodge and Jack Towney Hostels

Is open by appointment to essential visitors only, please ring ahead.

Essential visitors include:
1.      People or family members of new residents coming in,
2.      Family members of residents who are palliative,
3.      Villa residents who come in to pay their fees,
4.      Delivery people,
5.      Other healthcare professionals.


Staff are assisting residents to maintain contact with friends and family by telephone and Facebook.

Both services are following advice from NSW Health regarding visitors to the aged care facilities with up to date details available here

The GIL Collective & Visitors Information Centre

The GIL Collective and Visitors Information Centre is currently closed. Information can be found @ or by phone 02 6817 8800.

Gilgandra Fitness Centre

The Gilgandra Fitness Centre is currently closed. 

Gilgandra Housing and Homelessness

Gilgandra Shire Library

The Library is closed to the public under the Stay-At-Home order.  We are unable to provide Click and Collect under the current guidelines.  However, if you have a computer, phone or tablet and internet access, you can still access a huge range of library resources online, using your library card and your password.  There are two main ways to do this- using the North Western Library app on phones or tablets, or using the North Western Library website, We are also able to provide contactless home delivery of library resources to housebound residents within the Gilgandra township.

Gilgandra Waste Facility

The Facility is open for waste disposal. The Op Shop and recycling centre are currently closed. 

Gilgandra Youth Services 

Breakfast Club is currently closed, however counselling services are available.

Meals on Wheels and Community Transport

Meals on Wheels and Community Transport will continue services.

Orana Living

Orana Living office is closed to public. Only essential visitors to the houses. Life Skills Centre is closed. Orana Living houses implementing at home measures in line with NSW Health advice. Staff are using contactless pickup for supplies. Please call 6817 8600 to speak with Orana Living staff.

Public Parks

All public parks in the Gilgandra Shire are open. The community is reminded to observe social distancing requirements when using these public spaces.
Normal public park maintenance will continue.

Public Toilets

Hunter Park and Miller Street CBD public toilets are open. 

Road Maintenance, Water Sewer and Depot

Road Maintenance and water and sewer teams will continue as planned. The depot and workshop will continue to operate as normal. Infrastructure staff only.


Council will continue to stay up-to-date with Federal Government advice, in addition to NSW Government and NSW Health requirements and Public Health Orders. Necessary changes will continue to be implemented at the range of service locations and facilities that Council operates.

Council facilities have social distancing and hygiene measures in place, including all visitors to wear face masks and sign in, limits on customer numbers where stated. Strict social distancing and hygiene arrangements are in place to ensure health and safety of staff and customers. Customers are asked to not visit the various services and buildings if they are unwell.
